In 1964, I was a little girl sitting on the linoleum floor of my mother’s house in Milwaukee watching Anne Bancroft present the Oscar for best actor at the 36th Academy Awards. She opened the envelope and said five words that literally made history: “The winner is Sidney Poitier.” Up to the stage came the most elegant man I had ever seen. I remember his tie was white, and of course his skin was black, and I had never seen a black man being celebrated like that.Oprah Winfrey (Her rousing Golden Globes speech, 2018)
Oprah was grilled on her talk show on her view on the pathway to heaven via Jesus or not-what. Her argument alluded to more than one way to the light. Heaven.
It gave me a mild fit of an irritation purely because it is so polarising and a lot of this is still shrouded in ignorance, systemically. This was a segment commented on by a prolific youtuber. So, I responded.
I like this topic, but it is complicated. White Jesus is a Jesus who pillaged and plundered the African continent and forbade them to read or write. Racist to the core.
Then there’s the black Jesus, who no one cares about. Just look at what France is doing to Africa. Nonetheless, you believe we worship the same Jesus. Tea time. There you have it. Pause and reconsider.
Oprah has been on her pilgrimage, in addition to Saul (the Murderer), Moses (the Murderer), Abraham (the Liar), Jonah (the Runner), Rahab (the Whore, Nan of Jesus – Yes, Jesus came from the house of whores), Mary Magdalene (the Whore, best friend of Jesus), and others. In fact, nearly all of the great men and women of the Xtain faith were or are misfits:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.Matt 7:21
Not every Xtain in Church will make it to heaven. Between the Catholic Church and prosperity preachers, there have been child molestation horror stories and other heinous crimes.
Don’t get it mixed up.
So, be concerned about your own sins. Did you know that if a woman is not a virgin on her wedding night, the bible commands that she be stoned? I’ll leave it with you to resolve that.
“If any man takes a wife and goes in to her and then turns against her, 14 and charges her with shameful deeds and publicly defames her, and says, ‘I took this woman, but when I came near her, I did not find her a virgin,’ 15 then the girl’s father and her mother shall take and bring out the evidence of the girl’s virginity to the elders of the city at the gate.
16 “And the girl’s father shall say to the elders, ‘I gave my daughter to this man for a wife, but he turned against her; 17 and behold, he has charged her with shameful deeds, saying, “I did not find your daughter a virgin.” But this is the evidence of my daughter’s virginity.’ And they shall spread the garment before the elders of the city.
18 “So the elders of that city shall take the man and chastise him, 19 and they shall fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give it to the girl’s father, because he publicly defamed a virgin of Israel. And she shall remain his wife; he cannot divorce her all his days.
20 “But if this charge is true, that the girl was not found a virgin, 21 then they shall bring out the girl to the doorway of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death because she has committed an act of folly in Israel, by playing the harlot in her father’s house; thus you shall purge the evil from among you,”(Deut. 22:13-21).
